New Volunteer Welcome Workshop!

We are pleased to announce a Volunteer Opportunity Workshop at the museum on Saturday, February 17th beginning at 10:30 AM.

The Museum is looking to expand its volunteer ranks to further its mission of educating the public to the history of railroading. “Come on down and see what we’re all about.” says Volunteer Coordinator Alden Burns. “Volunteering even just one day a month has a big impact, and there are many different ways to get involved! No previous skill is required, you need only a desire to join."

The day will begin with coffee and pastry, followed by a welcome to the museum and a vintage train ride. After the train ride, visitors will head back into the museum for breakout sessions to discuss the various opportunities available at the museum, such as; train operations, equipment restoration, front desk and gift shop, and tour guides. And, as a thank you for attending, all prospective volunteers will receive a free first-year membership in the museum.

The Danbury Railway Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, staffed solely by volunteers, and is dedicated to the preservation of, and education about, railroad history. The museum and workshop is located in the restored 1903 Danbury Union Station and rail yard at 120 White Street, Danbury, CT. For further information, email volunteer@danburyrail.org.

Our museum is staffed solely by volunteers.

There are a variety of opportunities available to newcomers, including checking in visitors at the front desk and gift shop, giving tours of our equipment and railyard, and even accompanying visitors and narrating our train rides.

Some volunteers operate our trains, assist our mechanical department in maintenance and repairs, perform track maintenance, and even assist and eventually lead equipment restoration projects.

Additionally, restoration of artifacts and even pushing the inevitable paper while researching all are needed to make the museum an interesting, pleasant experience for its visitors as well as for its members.

No experience necessary!
